REL 331 History and Theology of the Black Church Three Credit Hours
A review and analysis of the significant religious experiences unique to African American churches and the theology that developed out of the black church experience. Special attention is given to the African and European sources of African American Christianity, the social, political, spiritual, and cultural dynamics that influence religious expressions in the black church, and the development of approaches and processes to bring about justice and social change in response to systemic discrimination and the institutionalization of social barriers. Prerequisite: REL 132
