Description

Metropolitan College at Johnson C. Smith University and Queen City Cocoa B.E.A.N.S., with the cooperation of Novant Health Medical Centers, Mecklenburg County Public Health and a local birthing center, have developed an International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE)-approved Pathway 2 comprehensive clinical training program in breastfeeding and human lactation. The Lactation Program provides both clinical and didactic components and will begin in the fall of 2017.

Course I (Didactic):
The didactic component provides students with the basic medical sciences as well as public health and social work perspectives, including consideration of equity, population and program-based applications. Due to the complexity of the issue of racial/ethnic breastfeeding and health disparities, and the fact that the solution is multi-factorial, this course is also designed to increase the number of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) of color.
